The theme of this weekend’s double-header of postings, is 50th wedding anniversaries. That’s quite a milestone! It’s come up multiple times already in my gradual acquire, restore, and organize family photo project, so I know culturally on both sides of our families, this is a big one. I’m personally looking forward to a joyous time in 2056.
First up is Bert and Bertha Dague — Matt’s maternal great-grandparents, parents to his mother’s mother.
I had already processed this photo and knew from the writing on the back that it was taken on their 50th wedding anniversary. It came to mind again after I recently discovered another resource to peruse old newspaper articles relevant to Medina county (see for yourself by clicking here)— and found this article featuring a nice write-up story about the celebration and with the same familiar photo:
Really cool because we get some details here — like the name of the wedding officiant, and the church, and even the suggestion that the photo was taken in the Prospect house where they celebrated with friends and family. Even better, you get to know a sliver of Bertha’s personality and values. And we are all given guidance for success in navigating 50 years with the love of our life. These reflections of people and humanity are like finding gold nuggets when you pan the stream.
