This week again features my sister, Lisa as it’s her birthday month celebration. This vintage shot drips of the late 70’s, witness the orange and brown decor (and clothing) surrounding us as Lisa holds baby me on the floor of the Evergreen house, as I well remember it later in the 80’s. I have good coming of age memories in this living room for family get-togethers or when my aunt and uncle were letting me visit/stay for awhile. I remember the novelty of cable television and the little HBO guide they received every month that seemed to have a whole world of entertainment awaiting those grown ups (Fraggle Rock for me). I remember playing in the basement, with the cool air, and the couch/relax area — it seemed enormous to me. There were interesting wood-working to be found around Jerry’s workbench area. I remember the stools in the kitchen/dining area and the phone on the wall in there. I remember the spacious yard and forest out back, felt like a fairy tale. I remember the creative pathway to grandma’s house from there. Best of all I remember the kindness of my aunt and uncle who were another warm set of protectors, directors, tellers of stories, humor creators, advice-givers and people to look up to. What I don’t remember is this day — too young, maybe around my own 1 year birthday is a guess.. the pants evoke autumn. I appreciate that Lisa was looking out for me and holding onto me in my onesie — I can see some drool is on the chest area so I was either eating or teething or both.
