I know that mid-century formal wear can evoke a “Mad-Men” style-vibe — aware here of the fashion and style reference but without any experience seeing the show itself. So it’s in that thought that I present my maternal grandfather, Donald DeVoe, here, seated, hands folded, and formally waiting for whatever comes next.
It’s unique to see him like this — and not in retirement era relax-wear or flannel. The smile is mild but considerate.
Is there a wedding reception nearby? Is he waiting to be interviewed for the next phase of his job/career life? Was a niece about to be baptized? Speculation abounds.
He’s rather youthful here — I put it around 1956, with wide error margin of 10yrs. That would put him at around 40 years.
Location and event remain mysterious.
The repair wasn’t too involved — mostly worked on improving the fading and scratches.
