Or at least that is the “feel” for this really nice quality photo of the elegant Marty Lunt (Jordan) — Erin’s maternal grandmother (on right) — and unidentified friend (on left) amidst some apparent scholarly activity, in what appears to be a dorm room type scene. You see caffeine on hand in two glass coca-cola bottles, you see a room densely furnished, a typewriter, books, shelving, ashtray, a vanity mirror.
I was given access to her scrapbooks, and this photo was adjacent to photos of her time at St Agnes Academy:
She graduated there in 1947 — so I presume this is from around that time.
From this website, St Agnes was open 1892-1970 and ultimately became part of the Cathedral High School system.
Alternatively, it’s possible that this photo is a staged, modeling photo. She worked at LS Ayres around this time — a former long-standing department store in Indianapolis (eventually bought by Macys in 2005) — the back of the photo has the LS Ayres name with “Ayrograms”. According to this site, the company newsletter was called “Ayrogram” — so maybe this was somehow part of that. Or was this simply an indication that the photo was printed through LS Ayres.
- Who is the girl with Marty?
- Was this a photo taken at St Agnes, or is this a modeling photo, or both?
